Dear Senator, It's time to ease Iowa's "English-Only" law. The law, which passed 20 years ago, has discriminated against and isolated English-language learners and has negatively impacted our communities, especially immigrant and refugee communities who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and experienced significant language barriers accessing information and resources to keep families safe. Iowa’s population of limited-English speakers deserve meaningful access to resources that allow them to live safe, dignified lives. Our community's health is best served by ensuring that everyone has access to resources that advance the welfare of everyone, regardless of English-language proficiency. It’s time to ease restrictions that this law placed upon Iowa’s agencies to make them more accessible, inclusive and welcoming. Will you support SF 2068 and ease Iowa’s “English-Only” law?
